As you know that a year has 365 days. A leap year has 366 days and it occurs after 4 years. Most years that can be cleanly divided by four are leap years. 2016, 2020 and 2024. In a leap year one extra day is added to February.  In the leap year the month of February has 29 days instead of 28 days. A year is divided in the twelve months, in the modern day Gregorian calendar. The months are either 28, 29, 30 or 31 days long.

The word month is  derived from the word moon. The months originated as a way to mark time and break up the year into shorter periods. The shorter periods are based on the moon’s orbit around earth.
