Affirmative sentences:-
जिन वाक्यों के अंत में था, थे, थी आया हो, तो Singular Noun व Pronoun He, She It के साथ was का प्रयोग किया जाता है तथा Plural Nouns व Pronoun I, We, You, They के साथ Were का प्रयोग किया जाता है।

रोशनी एक विद्यार्थी थी। =Rosni was a student.

दरवाजे बंद थे। =The doors were closed.
खिड़कियां खुली थी। =The windows were openned.

इंग्लिश में Was तथा Were का प्रयोग:-
Negative sentences:-
नकारात्मक वाक्य बनाते समय वाक्य में सहायक क्रिया was/were के बाद not लगाया जाता है।
